Therapeutic Interventions
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS is an approach to therapy that identifies and addresses multiple sub-personalities within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core Self. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create discord among the sub-personalities and the Self.
Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR involves taxing the working memory with a dual attention stimulus to process traumatic memories and install more positive beliefs. This method complements DBT and IFS work. Empirical research shows that EMDR is more rapid and more effective than trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (Shapiro, 2018). Other studies purport that EMDR decreases negative emotions, helps shift memory effects, and can relieve a variety of somatic concerns.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. A dialectical philosophy underpins this practice by supporting the idea that nothing is "black and white".
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT focuses on fostering psychological flexibility by teaching skills to accept what is out of personal control, commit to actions aligned with personal values, and mindfully engage in the present moment. Grounded in mindfulness and behavioral principles, ACT is widely used to address a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic pain, empowering people to build resilience and pursue their goals with clarity and purpose.
